Author Review – Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl birthday quiz - how well do you know your Dahl? Quentin BlakeReading a Roald Dahl book is a wonderful experience for children and adults alike. When looking for role models for children, it is hard to find better than Matilda, Charlie (and his chocolate factory), Danny (the champion of the world) or James (and his giant peach). I remember reading them as a child and even now I would count Fantastic Mr. Fox as one of my all-time favourite stories. Adults might want to seek out some of his adult fiction and autobiographical works. Totally different but equally enjoyable.

Author Review – Louise Penny

LouisePennyLouise Penny is a highly-acclaimed Canadian crime writer who creates characters who are complex and very real. Her plots are gripping but without graphic violence. Chief Inspector Armand Gamache digs into mysteries set in and around the Quebec village of Three Pines. I’m hoping to go and listen to her at this year’s Adelaide Writer’s Festival.
